CRACK IT is a soundless chemical expansive mortar, otherwise known as Rock breaking chemical. It comes in a powder form and when mixed with clean water, the product then swells and exerts a significant expansive force inside the hole, fracturing the material and splitting the rock. This demolition has an advantage over conventional explosives because there is no noise, no flying rocks, no explosion, no vibrations and no permits required.

DRILLING:

Drill holes to the requirements of design using an air compressor and rock drill 28mm to 40mm in diameter, with a minimum depth of 400mm.
The hole spacing must be 200 to 400mm apart, depending on rock /concrete strength, and must be drilled in a honey-comb type pattern.
To obtain a required depth in bed rock, drill to 105% of level, and to break boulders, drill to 80% of the boulder height.

MIXING:

Expansive mortar must be thoroughly mixed with clean cold water before use. The required volume is 1.5 liters of water into a clean bucket, then gradually add one 5kg bag of Expansive Mortar.
Do not use hot water.
Stir until you obtain smooth lump-free slurry.
Use only open pails or containers for mixing. Narrow necked containers must not be used.Avoid adding extra water, as this may reduce concentration and effectiveness of the mix.

FILLING:

Pour the freshly mixed slurry into pre-drilled holes within 5 minutes of mixing.
DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO HOLES WHEN FILLING.
DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO HOLES FOR THE NEXT 2 -6 HOURS IN CASE OF BLOW OUTS.

In summer the best time to use CRACK IT is early morning or late afternoon when the temperature is lower. It may even be necessary to spray cold water over the rocks or concrete to cool them down, prior to filling with CRACK IT.
In certain types of concrete, it may be necessary to fill the drilled hole with water, letting the concrete absorb some moisture, then blow out the excess water before filling with CRACK IT. This prevents the concrete from absorbing the moisture out of the slurry mix.

AMOUNT TO USE:

30mm diameter hole = 1.0kg/m 32mm diameter hole = 1.3kg/m
34mm diameter hole = 1.5kg/m 38mm diameter hole = 1.8kg/m
Cracks should appear within2-6 hours after filling with CRACK IT mixture. Crack times will vary depending on material to be cracked, hole design, diameter of holes and temperature.
CRACK IT continues to increase pressure for up to 48 hours.

IMPORTANT

Store in a dry location. The product will be damaged and lose efficacy if contacted by water or if it is exposed to dampness.
For best results it is important to take into account air ambient temperature.

SAFETY WARNING

Expansive Mortar

PRODUCT CONTAINS CALCIUM OXIDE (LIME)
CONTACT OF THE POWDER WITH WATER WILL
RESULT IN THE PRODUCTION OF LARGE AMOUNTS
OF HEAT AND POSSIBLY STEAM. IN CONFINED SITUATIONS THIS WILL ALSO CREATE HIGH PRESSURES. RISK OF BURNS TO EYES OR SKIN.

Health Risk:

Risk of serious eye damage due to the alkaline nature of this product. Material gets hot after adding water, increasing the risk of damage to eyes. Product may cause skin irritation if left on skin. Inhalation of dust may irritate respiratory system or lungs. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may aggravate asthma and lead to inflammatory pulmonary disease.

Safety in use:

1. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhalation of dust. If accidental contact occurs, wash of powder immediately. If working in a confined area, ensure adequate ventilation. Wear long sleeved shirt, long trousers and use personal protective equipment if at risk of exposure to powder, slurry or dust.
2. Use approved safety goggles and gloves when mixing and filling.
3. Wear dust mask if working in a confined area.
4. Do not use hot water for mixing.
5. Do not put mixed slurry into bottles or cans, this could lead to blow-outs with glass or metal fragments.
6. Do not look into filled holes, and cover them with a cloth sheet until reaction is completed.

First Aid:

Swallowed: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.
IF UNCONCIOUS DO NOT GIVE FLUIDS TO DRINK.

If conscious get affected person to drink large volumes of water to dilute the chemical. Obtain medical advice. Provide rest, warmth and fresh air.
Eye contact: Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting eye lids. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if redness or irritation develops.
Skin Contact: Remove affected person from source of contamination. Wash skin thoroughly with mild soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops.
Inhaled: Move the exposed person to fresh air immediately. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues
